Housing

You can apply to your local Housing Department to be re-housed if you are being abused. You can do this from the refuge or you can apply direct to the Housing Department.

If you are experiencing abuse, you will probably be considered to be unintentionally homeless. You will be in priority need if you have children who would normally stay with you or if you are vulnerable through age or illness.

In these circumstances, you should be offered immediate temporary accommodation, followed by permanent re-housing.

Temporary accommodation varies in different parts of the country. In some cases it can be self-contained flats in a block with a warden, or it may be a house on its own, or it may be a room in a bed and breakfast.

Your local Women’s Aid group will be able to give you more information about the temporary accommodation available in your area.
