Domestic abuse statistics
Statistics on domestic abuse can come from a number of sources. In Scotland, domestic abuse statistics are gathered by the police forces and published by the Scottish Government. These publications can be found at www.scotland.gov.uk.
Organisations such as Scottish Women’s Aid and the Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline also publish some statistical information on domestic abuse in their annual reports. Copies of these can be obtained directly from the organisations.
Over the years there have also been a number of surveys and pieces of research carried out. All of this information is used to inform service providers and the Scottish Government about the size and nature of domestic abuse in Scotland.
