Help for children and young people

Children who are living in a home where there is domestic abuse are likely to be aware of the abuse and to be affected by it.

They may see or overhear it, or see the effects on you afterwards.

Domestic abuse is a form of child abuse.

There are children’s outreach workers in every area of Scotland who specialise in providing support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse. You can contact them through local Women’s Aid groups.

You should also seek legal advice about the rights and responsibilities you and the father of your children may have, and what to do about making sure the children can stay with you, if that is what you and they want.

The ChildLine Website offers a support service for children and young people.
